Our world can always use more love.

Why wait?

Do you have a friend or relative that you just adore?  Have you ever told them so?  Why wait?  How about when someone gives you a gift.  Let them know right then that you appreciate it.  This is true also with your coworkers, fellow students, those who may work for you, even the bus driver that picks you up each day.  If you have really good feelings about them.  Let them know.  Why wait?

The Kindest of All

I'm sure people have done kind things for you in the past, right?  It feels good.  That's why I like encouraging kindness. Think for a moment about all those wonderful things that folks have done for you in the past. What was the kindest of all?

Henry James on kindness

Novelist Henry James said (to his nephew Billy James) "Three things in human life are important. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind."  I certainly agree!

Don't be a sore loser

In competition, not everyone comes in first place.  It shows good character and great kindness to accept defeat graciously.  Nobody likes a sore loser.

What is better than love?

Ask yourself this:  What is better than love?  Seriously.  Can you come up with an answer?  I called February the Love Month, but we had last month and can have more now.  Love is all around.  How wonderful, because I think there is nothing better than love!

the kind people

I love hearing stories of kindness. Sometimes on the local news we hear of a neighborhood hero or maybe in a Facebook post. The kind acts that people do always warm my heart and getting all the details is such an extra bonus. Sharing stories can be done here too - just add them in the comments below!  I really never get tired of here about kind acts and the kind people in our world.

Earth Day

Today is Earth Day. I happen to think that every day should be Earth Day. but that's another matter. Let's just concentrate on today for the moment. I talk here about kindness, and usually am talking about being kind to other people, but there is another kindness that is extremely important. Be kind to our planet. Be kind to the future generations who will live here. Today, set some goals for our relationship with the good old Earth.  We CAN make a difference!

Volunteer Week

This is National Volunteer Week in the United States, so thank you to those who volunteer. They really make a difference. Benefits of volunteering are enjoyed by the community effected of course, but also by the volunteers themselves, in knowing that they contributed to the betterment of society in some manner. if you don't already, consider volunteering. You might begin with your local hospital.

missing Nana

I miss my grandmother.  She was such a kind person and I have so many fond memories of her.  (Today would have been her birthday).  Thanks, Nana, for making a difference!

This morning I want to share some powerful words from former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt: "Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart."

No war

War is never a good thing. There is currently fighting going on in Myanmar, Russia, Ukraine, Israel, Lebanon, Sudan, and several other countries. Yesterday there was talk of another world war. This is nothing new. Throughout history there has been fighting and killing, but it doesn't have to be this way. We can actually sit down and work out our differences. We can actually respect each other and be kind. We can, but we don't. I really don't understand it. Let's all say, "no war" and mean it.

What else is there to say

I talk here every day about being kind.  What else is there to say?  What am I leaving out?  How do we make this world a kinder place?  What do YOU think!  I'd really love to hear your thoughts.

hearts will always remember

Our minds won't always remember exactly what happened, but our hearts will always remember the feeling!

You matter

You might not have heard it lately.  You might not have ever heard it (although I hope that isn't so), but you matter.  To some folks it is obvious.  Too often though we fail to say it or to show it.  Regardless of that, you matter.  You will always matter.  Never think otherwise.

Good is something you do

Italian cyclist Gino Bartali said "Good is something you do, not something you talk about. Some medals are pinned to your soul, not to your jacket."  Wonderful words.  Think about it.

The things I see

It really warms my heart when I witness the kindness of others.  Despite all the negative news we hear, I am seeing more and more nice gestures, often by strangers.  The other day I got up to pay for my breakfast at the restaurant where I occasionally treat myself in the morning, and the hostess told me a couple that had just left had paid for me.  I have no idea who they were, but this is what kindness is all about.  I am truly grateful!

The words are from Henry David Thoreau, and I have probably shared them here before, but that's okay. They are important! He said "The most I can do for my friend is simply to be his friend. I have no wealth to bestow on him. If he knows that I am happy in loving him, he will want no other reward. Is not friendship divine in this?"

joys in life

There are few joys in life that equal a good book, a good conversation, a good walk, a good smile, a good hug, or a good friend.

Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.  Really.

As we start this second week of April, may it be a kinder and happier we than last, and may we all show more love toward one another.  We can all do great things.  We can all make a positive difference.  Let's spread joy and make the world a better place.  Be kind!

Remembering Ewing

It was only in the last several years of his life that I knew him, but the kindness he showed toward me, my mother, and every single person he met was inspiring.  Ewing was a genuinely nice man, and from the stories I heard from those who had known him longer, he had always been nice.  He was an adventurer too, having hopped a freight train and traveled across the country in his younger days.  He was also a man of great faith - always active in his church, and in his community.  Memories of Ewing will always stay with me.

It's a pretty simple message that I share here every day.  I hope it helps me be a better person and I hope it touches and motivates you as well.  We can never have too much kindness in our world.  Let's just keep adding more and more.  Be kind!
