Something happened in this country and many of you probably noticed it.
In the last 24 hours I saw folks of every race, religion, sexual orientation, economic background, come together and share a moment of grief when they heard that a helicopter had crashed.
There have already been so many wonderful tributes to Kobe Bryant, but one thing that sticks in my mind is how he brought so many together. This is a very divided nation right now, but that divide CAN be bridged. Kobe's death and the outpouring of love gives us proof. Let's build on this and continue to bridge the divide.

A few
Here are a few random acts of kindness. Give a pair of tickets to a concert or baseball game to a stranger. Send a gift anonymously to a friend. Make a point of finding the name of a supermarket or drugstore employee and then praise him/her through that company’s corporate office.
When drivers try to merge into your lane, let them in with a wave and a smile. Tell your boss that you think he/she does a good job. Donate blood. Pay for the meal of the person behind you in the drive-through. Tell your children why you love them. Call or visit a homebound person.

Words from Dr King
"Cowardice asks the question, is it safe? Expediency asks the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? But conscience asks the question, is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither sane, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right." -Martin Luther King, Jr. whose holiday we celebrate today

Halfway already
As difficult as it may seem to believe, we are already halfway through the first month of the year! You know what I always say - Time flies when you're being kind.

wrong number kindness
I'm feeling a bit under the weather (nothing serious - just a bad cold) and last night decided I would stay home today. I called the lead for the position I was to have been working to let her know. The call went right to voicemail, so I left a message. I few minutes later I got a call back. It seems I had the wrong number and when the guy heard my message, he said he just HAD to let me know. He didn't want me to get fired. Thanks for the kindness!

Glad to be doing this!
Not sure if this is your first time reading these words, or if you have been around since I began this a few years ago, but I am really glad to be doing this. I try to be a good and kind person. It pretty much just happens for me, but thinking about this every morning will hopefully make me more kind. That's got to be good, right?

resolution progress
So how are those resolutions coming? Did you resolve to continue a certain good practice or change an undesired trait or behavior or maybe accomplish a personal goal? Are you having success? We're just twelve days into the year, so don't give up. Just as you are kind to others, be kind to yourself too.

You can be funny and be kind
It's true that Ellen DeGeneres is a comedian, but one of the things I really admire about her is the love and care that she brings. I once heard her say "Most comedy is based on getting a laugh at somebody else's expense. And I find that that's just a form of bullying in a major way. So I want to be an example that you can be funny and be kind, and make people laugh without hurting somebody else's feelings." You are a fine example dear Ellen. Thank you for that!

random
On this chilly January morning, I was thinking of a few random acts of kindness. Volunteer to read to kids. Donate your time at a senior center. Pay for the person behind you in the movie line. Tell your parents why you love them. Bring flowers to work and share them with coworkers. As you go about your day, pick up trash. Give a bag of groceries to a homeless person. There are tons more!

Yesterday when they were kind
Oh my! I will be thinking about yesterday when they were kind for a very long time to come. So many people - many of them either strangers or folks I barely knew, doing kind things for me and for others. I won't go into detail right now, because the stories would be quite long, but what a nice feeling. Kindness is ALWAYS such a good thing!

Saturday greetings
I'm watching a beautiful sunrise where I live on this wonderful Saturday morning. May this first weekend of the year be full of kindness and may we all be filled with happiness.

Fear of war
Waking up this morning with World War III trending on social media and a lot of talk in the news about the US becoming involved in war. Scary. First of all I don't understand why we can't all just get along. We don't have to agree all the time, but we should be willing to work things out. The fear of war is not good for our well being. Let us instead so kindness and love.

2020 begins
When I began this blog back in 2016, who would have thought I would still be writing every morning when 2020 rolled around? Well, I am! Happy New Year everybody and be kind!
