More random acts of kindness

Pay a compliment at least once a day.  Transport someone who can’t drive.  Make telephone calls in support of equality urging others to put aside hate.  Say something nice to everyone you meet today.  Tell your children why you love them.  Call or visit a homebound person.  Send a treat to a school or day-care center.  Volunteer at an organization that needs help.  Go through your closets and find several nice items and then donate them to a shelter.

Appreciation

Appreciation blooms in our heart, in our being, in the same lives with which we have had so many justified complaints and quibbles.  Appreciation is such a wondrous sense of good.

Aesop says

A quote attributed to the Greek fabulist and storyteller Aesop says "No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."  How true that is!

Kobe love

Something happened in this country and many of you probably noticed it. In the last 24 hours I saw folks of every race, religion, sexual orientation, economic background, come together and share a moment of grief when they heard that a helicopter had crashed.   There have already been so many wonderful tributes to Kobe Bryant, but one thing that sticks in my mind is how he brought so many together.  This is a very divided nation right now, but that divide CAN be bridged.  Kobe's death and the outpouring of love gives us proof.  Let's build on this and continue to bridge the divide.

Explore, Dream, Discover

Samuel Langhorne Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, was a great novelist and entrepreneur. He also was quite the motivator! Here are some words of inspiration from him: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover."

Keep at it

Never give up is one of my long held beliefs. My values aren't something I change several times a day, as I might change my clothes. I have to stay true to my principles, even if others don't join in. The test for me is simple: is it the kind, just, and fair path. If it is unkind, if it is not fair, if it doesn't treat everyone equally and justly, then it must be wrong. Activism is not a four letter word though and I will not be swayed by threats or setbacks. When it is the right thing to do, I will keep at it, and I will keep urging others to join in.

A few

Here are a few random acts of kindness. Give a pair of tickets to a concert or baseball game to a stranger. Send a gift anonymously to a friend. Make a point of finding the name of a supermarket or drugstore employee and then praise him/her through that company’s corporate office. When drivers try to merge into your lane, let them in with a wave and a smile. Tell your boss that you think he/she does a good job. Donate blood. Pay for the meal of the person behind you in the drive-through. Tell your children why you love them. Call or visit a homebound person.

Positive

Some folks say I am always positive.  Yup.  I agree.  Let's all be positive.  Let's all see the good in our world!

Sharing is kind

Sharing is a very kind thing to do.  I'm not just talking about sharing your property.  There are many ways to share.  May I suggest sharing this blog for example?  Tell your friends!  Oh and share your own thoughts about kindness with us.  Just write in the comments section below.

We love our animals

Although my sister has loved all the dogs she has had over the years, there was a very special pug she called Bug.  I think he was her favorite of all.  I know he was a favorite of my.  The other night Bug ran into the street and was hit by a car and killed.  I can't tell you how many kind wishes have been sent my sister's way.  Pets aren't human, but they do become part of the family.  We love our animals and that's how it should be.  Thank you to everyone who shares the love!

Words from Dr King

"Cowardice asks the question, is it safe?  Expediency asks the question, is it politic?  Vanity asks the question, is it popular?  But conscience asks the question, is it right?  And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither sane, nor politic, nor popular, but one must take it because it is right." -Martin Luther King, Jr. whose holiday we celebrate today

The Little Things

I've written here about specific things we can all do to show kindness, but we don't need lists.  We don't need to keep thinking up more and more random acts of kindness.  Yes, those are great but it's the little things we do each day that are so important.  It's the natural kindness that we do without even thinking.

My elderly neighbor

Sometimes I worry about folks who live all alone, especially those in advanced years, but there is no need to worry about my elderly neighbor.  Folks are always dropping by for short visits to say hello.  Some offer to take him on errands and others bring food or other goodies for him to enjoy.  The other day he told me he felt like a lucky guy with so many kind people in his life.  Indeed!

Actually making a difference

The incredible Isaac Asimov once said "However, I continue to try and I continue, indefatigably, to reach out. There’s no way I can single-handedly save the world or, perhaps, even make a perceptible difference, but how ashamed I would be to let a day pass without making one more effort."  This is the sort of thing that actually does makes a difference!

Halfway already

As difficult as it may seem to believe, we are already halfway through the first month of the year!  You know what I always say - Time flies when you're being kind.

Do your little bit of good

Wonderful words of encouragement from Desmond Tutu: "Do your little bit of good where you are; those little bits put together overwhelm the world."

wrong number kindness

I'm feeling a bit under the weather (nothing serious - just a bad cold) and last night decided I would stay home today. I called the lead for the position I was to have been working to let her know. The call went right to voicemail, so I left a message. I few minutes later I got a call back. It seems I had the wrong number and when the guy heard my message, he said he just HAD to let me know.  He didn't want me to get fired.  Thanks for the kindness!

Glad to be doing this!

Not sure if this is your first time reading these words, or if you have been around since I began this a few years ago, but I am really glad to be doing this.  I try to be a good and kind person.  It pretty much just happens for me, but thinking about this every morning will hopefully make me more kind.  That's got to be good, right?

resolution progress

So how are those resolutions coming? Did you resolve to continue a certain good practice or change an undesired trait or behavior or maybe accomplish a personal goal?  Are you having success?  We're just twelve days into the year, so don't give up.  Just as you are kind to others, be kind to yourself too.

my phone buddy

There is a guy in another city (where I used to live) who does an excellent job of keeping in touch.  I'm always glad to receive his telephone calls.  Sometimes you just want a good conversation and he is always there.

you are appreciated

Being told that you are appreciated, is one of the simplest yet most incredible things that you can ever hear!

You can be funny and be kind

It's true that Ellen DeGeneres is a comedian, but one of the things I really admire about her is the love and care that she brings. I once heard her say "Most comedy is based on getting a laugh at somebody else's expense. And I find that that's just a form of bullying in a major way. So I want to be an example that you can be funny and be kind, and make people laugh without hurting somebody else's feelings." You are a fine example dear Ellen. Thank you for that!

random

On this chilly January morning, I was thinking of a few random acts of kindness. Volunteer to read to kids. Donate your time at a senior center. Pay for the person behind you in the movie line. Tell your parents why you love them. Bring flowers to work and share them with coworkers. As you go about your day, pick up trash. Give a bag of groceries to a homeless person.  There are tons more!

Caring people

I know so many loving caring people.  It inspires me to be more loving and more caring too.  I love when I see a random act of kindness, even when it is people I don't even know.  It warms my heart.  We need more such moments though.  I just KNOW we can do it!

Do Re Mi

Do Re Mi is the name of the musical that gave us that song Make Someone Happy. I love that song. I love the idea of making someone happy even more. Let's start at the very beginning (that sounds like another Make Do Re Mi) - making someone happy makes me happy. Wow! It's a never-ending circle. That' the way is really should be!

Yesterday when they were kind

Oh my!  I will be thinking about yesterday when they were kind for a very long time to come.  So many people - many of them either strangers or folks I barely knew, doing kind things for me and for others.  I won't go into detail right now, because the stories would be quite long, but what a nice feeling.  Kindness is ALWAYS such a good thing!

Saturday greetings

I'm watching a beautiful sunrise where I live on this wonderful Saturday morning.  May this first weekend of the year be full of kindness and may we all be filled with happiness.

Fear of war

Waking up this morning with World War III trending on social media and a lot of talk in the news about the US becoming involved in war.  Scary.  First of all I don't understand why we can't all just get along.  We don't have to agree all the time, but we should be willing to work things out.  The fear of war is not good for our well being.  Let us instead so kindness and love.

2020 begins

When I began this blog back in 2016, who would have thought I would still be writing every morning when 2020 rolled around?  Well, I am!  Happy New Year everybody and be kind!
