Today I begin my second year of writing these brief daily thoughts about kindness. Encourage me by sharing your thoughts in the comments and by sharing this blog with others. Hopefully with me focusing on kindness, I will become a kinder person. One can only hope!

Fires, storms, and earthquakes
So any natural disasters lately and so much destruction as a result. It's hard to see the homes that have been lost due to fires, hurricanes, and earthquakes and all of the people who are struggling through this loss, often mourning the death of friends or family at the same time. The thing that warms my heart and gives me great home, is seeing all the people who spring into action to help in whatever way they can. I am seeing so much love, compassion, and kindness, and that is indeed encouraging!

Hand in Hand kindness
Such a great example of kindness was the telethon last night for hurricane relief. The Hand in Hand event raised $76,378 so far and donations are still being accepted. (Text “GIVE” to 80077 to donate $25 or go to https://handinhand2017.com/ to donate online). THIS is kindness!

Prayers on 9/11
"Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us." -President George W. Bush September 11, 2001

When our brothers are in trouble
The aftermath of Hurricane Harvey and the approach of Hurricane Irma and the wildfires, and all of the natural disasters, it is heartwarming to see people come together. Human kindness and compassion should always be a part of who we are. When our brothers and sisters are in trouble, so are we. Let's always help of neighbors.

School days
It would be right about this time of year, that I would be going back to school (way back when I was that age). These days most schools return in late July or early August. Summer break was fun. People went on trips. I was usually at a summer camp, at least for a time when school was out. The first few days back at school were dreadful, except for a few exceptional years. I had some very kind teachers whom I will always remember. They taught us how to interact with others and how to always be nice in everything we do. Going to school those years was a joy!
