Can you think of some random ways to show kindness to others? How about these: As you go about your day, pick up trash. Call or visit a homebound person. Make a point of finding the name of a supermarket or drugstore employee and then praise him/her through that company’s corporate office. When drivers try to merge into your lane, let them in with a wave and a smile. Tell your boss that you think he/she does a good job. Pay a compliment at least once a day. Donate blood. Transport someone who can’t drive. Others?

One of the members of The Association (one of my favorite groups), Larry Ramos, died on this date two years ago. He was only 72 and had some health issues in his latter years, but boy did he entertain us! He was part of The New Christy Minstrels and then later joined The Association where he shared lead vocals with Terry Kirkman. For years, I ended my radio shift by saying "Live, love, laugh, be happy, and never ever forget . . ." leading into a recording of The Association's Cherish (which Kirkman wrote). Years later I discovered the David Cassidy version and found I preferred it. By the way, Dizzy Gillespie, Barry Manilow, The Lettermen, Nina Simone, Ed Ames, Petula Clark, and The Four Tops are among the many who have recorded Cherish. Anyway, thinking of Larry Ramos this morning, reminded me of the song, and all the inspiration I have received from it.

I really like these words of Ralph Waldo Emerson: "You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late." I'm also inspired by this that he said: "Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

Today happens to be my birthday, and so I thought I would begin the day by spreading a little cheer and happiness! Of being kind, I have a few things to say. Sometimes here I might share inspirational quotes and at other times I'll put forth ideas about kindness and how together we just might brighten up the world. Hopefully this will help to brighten up things for YOU. Do feel free to share these posts and your comments below are always welcome as well. Of being kind, there are so many ways! Let's use them all up!
